STAR TREK - NEXT GENERATION / DEEP SPACE 9 SCENARIO This scenario portrays the STNG/DS9 "universe", I hope you find it entertaining. It does not include anything from Voyager, as I haven't had a chance to watch that series yet. I have been playing around with this for a few months already, and I just found out that Microprose is coming out with a Trek-based strategy game this year (98). It looks like it's based on the MOO2 engine. Well, while we wait for it to come (hope it's as good as MOO2 or better), check this out and make all the improvements you want/need. I have included the following players in this scenario: 1. The Federation 2. The Ferengi 3. The Klingons 4. The Romulans 5. The Cardassians 6. The Maquis 7. The Dominion 8. The Borg The game takes place in a huge galaxy. The relative positions of the 8 empires are roughly based on the STNG map of the Milky Way and its 4 quadrants. I put a Black Hole in the middle of the galaxy to represent the Great Barrier. I have included already-defined spacecraft (done with CORION2) for all 8 empires, these spacecraft are very strong compared to the ones you can normally create in the game. You can build these or design your own, of course. Also, to make the game a little harder I gave all players the Warlord ability, to enable them to have bigger fleets. Die-hard Trek fans will realize that the names I gave to the systems are mostly not from the series. I just used names of real stars, SciFi authors, real Scientists, and names slightly related to the specific races (such as Kronos for Klingons, Rihanssu for Romulans, Cardassia Prime for Cardassia, Great Link for the Founders, Ferenginar for -duh- the Ferengi, etc.) Again, feel free to make whatever changes suit you and your tastes. I edited the MOO2 races to make them resemble the STNG races: The Borg are Aggressive Expansionists, extremely advanced technologically, but they have extremely low numbers for research (they assimilate, they don't invent), population growth (same reason), industry and money. They also have very high modifyers for ship attack and defense, and for ground combat (they adapt to weapons used against them). The Borg also have very small numbers for spying. The Borg are Repulsive, therefore they cannot be negotiated with. (Resistance is futile). I gave them a Borg cube ship which is almost impossible to defeat. (Bonus points if you can identify where the names of the Borg worlds come from). At first I thought about making the Borg like the Antarans (the Microprose Trek strategy game put the Borg in the place of the Antarans), a non-player nuisance, but I decided to make them one of the players so that I could play using them. The Ferengi have very high numbers for industry, spying, and money (of course). They have disadvantages in scientific research, and ground combat. They are Ruthless Industrialists, with the attributes of Fantastic Traders, and Luck. They also start out with twice as much cash as everyone else. The Klingons are Aggressive Militarists, with the attributes of Uncreative, Stealthy Ships (cloaks) and High-G world. They have advantages in Ground Combat, Ship Attack, and disadvantages in Industry, Science, and Spying. The Klingons also have regular cloaking technology. The Romulans are Xenophobic Technologists, with the attributes of Creativity, and Stealthy Ships. They have advantages in Science, Spying (the Tal Shiar), Ship Attack. They also have regular cloaking technology. The Cardassians are Aggressive Militarists, with the attributes of Charisma (just hear one of Gul Dukat's speeches). They have advantages in Science, Spying (the Obsidian Order), Industry, and Farming. The Founders are also Aggressive Militarists, with the attributes of Tolerant, Subterranean, and Lithovore (the Changelings and the Jem Haddar don't need food). They have a disadvantage in Population (new changelings don't grow that fast), and advantages in Science, Ship Defense (those little scarab ships are tough), ship attack, ground combat (the Jem Haddar), and a HUGE advantage in Spying (need I say why?). They also have Stealth Suits (the Jem Haddar can do the invisibility trick when standing still). There is a wormhole that leads from Dominion space to the Bajor system in the Federation border with Cardassia and the Maquis, the Federation colony of New Bajor is on the Dominion end of the wormhole. (For the game's purpose, Bajor is a Fed world) The Maquis are Ruthless Ecologists (they've formed colonies in inhospitable worlds in the Badlands). They are Charismatic (many Fed officers have defected to their side), Creative (like the Fed), and Lucky (just watch them pilot a ship through the Badlands). They have advantages in Farming, Ship Attack and Defense (good pilots), and Spying (lots of Maquis infiltrated in the Fed); and disadvantages in Industry. They also have most of the Technology that the Federation has. The Maquis only have a few worlds, dangerously close to their main enemy, the Cardassian Union. The Federation is Pacifist, and I made it the Human Player by default. Using an editor such as CORION2 you can change this and play anyone you want. The Feds have the most worlds (like in STNG) but they're relatively spread thin, and relatively poorly defended, except for core worlds such as Earth and Vulcan. The Feds are Charismatic and Creative, and I added a Large Home World. They have advantages in Industry, and Science. The Feds don't have regular cloaking technology BUT they have the experimental Phasing Cloak shown in STNG. Fed technology is pretty advanced, but not much superior to that of the Romulans, Founders, and Cardassians, and of course much inferior to that of the Borg. The Feds start out with a Space Station around Bajor (I know DS9 is not in Bajor's orbit anymore, in the series pilot it was moved closer to the wormhole, but for convenience in the game I made it this way). Well, enjoy it and feel free to make any changes you want. For a challenging play, choose the Maquis and eliminate all the predesigned ships, and make your own. Regards, RAUL SOTO Puerto Rico
